During the residency program “9Tage.Schöpfung.” we were given a studio in Kunsthaus bella martha that was located on a foresty hill. On the same hill there was a care home for people with dementia, as well as a kindergarten. We wanted to use the studio as a place to invite and meet these people. To dress up the room, we covered the walls and the floor in a giant blue roof cover we found on the site and the lamps with dark blue transparent foil. The result was an intense ultramarine blue room, which had a quite disorienting effect.
We chose the color blue, because we associated it with an unknown future and thus being in the present. Blue recedes and expands the space mentally. What about the loss and growth of memory? Does that make the brain bigger in the sense of wider or smaller? Blue decreases the temperature mentally, but also physically. Is blue soft, the softest, softer than...?
